Come and see us at ITEC 2012, in London's ExCeL Centre

19/05/2012

In what promises to be one of the most eye-catching displays, the company will present a 120° curved cylindrical screen with a 2 x 2 array of projectiondesign FL32 LED DLP projectors.

This will be fed from a single Image Generator connected to an external n-Vidia Quadro Plex graphics engine provided by Novatechalong with Bohemia’s VBS2 software (and the virtual role playing scenarios).

Of strategic importance, according to Henry van der Helm, Business Development Manager for Simulation Displays, has been the major market shift towards LED projectors in the current bids supported by the company. “Even considering the many advantages of LED technology, the speed of adoption has been surprising,” he said. “We intend to address this head on, with a full working system which we believe will be unique.”

The benefits of LED technology are well documented and include low energy draw and operating costs, and virtually zero maintenance overheads. “As there are no lamps or colour wheels to change — and therefore no downtime — there is no expensive projector re-alignment necessary, as is usually the case following replacement of such consumables. LED provides a genuinely low cost of ownership over the lifespan of the system,” believes van der Helm.

Technically, the system also offers incredible black levels; this is important as the aggregation of four overlapping projector channels has historically created an ugly grey patch of intrusive luminance (at the centre point of overlap).

The system will also have a working software-based automatic alignment system from Scalable Display Technologies, whom Simulation Displays represents in Europe .

Finally, Simulation Displays will be supported by its US partner IDSI (Immersive Display Solutions Inc) and the company’s CEO George Forbes will be present on the booth.
